  4. How To Care For A Wool Suit

A good wool suit isn’t just clothing; it’s an investment in looking sharp. Whether you’re suiting up for work, weddings, or a big night out, keeping your suit in top condition means it’ll always look the part. The good news? Suit maintenance isn’t complicated. With a few simple steps, you’ll extend the life of your wool suit and keep it feeling fresh, season after season.

Below, we’ll answer common questions like how to maintain a suit, how many times you can wear a suit without washing it, and how often suits should be dry cleaned.
Let’s get into it.

1.  Brush It Down

The easiest suit maintenance step? A quick brush after each wear. Use a proper fabric brush to remove dust, dirt, and lint - especially along the sleeves and trouser legs where it collects most. Quick, clean strokes keep the wool fibres smooth and sharp.

2. Air It Out

Wondering how many times you can wear a suit without washing it? Here’s the good news: wool is naturally odour-resistant. That means you can wear your suit multiple times without worry. Instead of washing, simply hang it somewhere airy (not crammed in your wardrobe) and let the fibres breathe. A day of airing out does more than any unnecessary wash.

3. Spot Clean Like A Pro

Accidents happen whether it’s a splash of coffee or a late-night food spill. The key is knowing how to spot clean a suit. Always dab, never rub. Use a clean, damp cloth to lift the stain gently. For stubborn marks, reach for a wool-safe detergent. Steer clear of bleach as it’ll damage the fabric.

4. Dry Clean Less, Steam More

A common question is: how often should suits be dry cleaned? The answer: not that often. Twice a year is usually plenty. Over-cleaning wears down the fabric, so instead, rely on brushing and airing between wears. For creases and freshening up, skip the iron and use steam instead. Steaming suits relaxes the fibres and avoids shiny patches, while giving your suit a crisp, ready-to-wear finish.

5. Hang and Store Smart

When it comes to hanging suits and long-term storage for suits, the right setup makes all the difference. Use a wide wooden hanger to support the shoulders and keep the shape. Store your suit in a breathable garment bag (never plastic!) and add cedar or moth protectors for good measure. If you own more than one suit, rotate them so each gets a break between wears. A cool, dry wardrobe with enough space for air to circulate is your suit’s best friend.

Final Word

Suit maintenance doesn’t need to be complicated. Brush it, air it, dab it, and store it right with the occasional steam or dry clean and your wool suit will always rise to the occasion. A little care goes a long way in keeping your investment looking sharp.
